Fontin & Company was founded in 1995 as a spin-off from the University of St. Gallen to offer consulting services for infrastructure-driven companies. Our clients include large international corporations and organizations, as well as medium-sized and municipal companies. Our clients primarily come from the entire German-speaking region (Germany, Switzerland, and Austria). Additionally, we work closely with leading international universities and renowned experts.
Who we are. Management consulting for infrastructure-driven companies.
Fontin & Company focuses on infrastructure-driven companies in the energy, mobility, and other infrastructure sectors. These are primarily characterized by extensive capital tied up long-term in assets. This results in specific success factors and challenges for companies, such as the discrepancy between the longevity of assets and rapidly changing user behavior. In addition to strategic issues (e.g., optimized business models), the efficiency of the operational level, such as technology and asset management, is crucial for business success. Another particularity is the significant role of the public sector in financing infrastructure, necessitating appropriately adapted business management.
We have been successfully supporting our customers for 25 years. With our fields of expertise, we cover the entire process for their further development and transformation. Starting with the support of strategic issues, their transfer into viable business models, through ongoing performance management to the anchoring of further development in the organization and processes, we have tried-and-tested methods and procedures at our disposal. In addition to conceptual projects, we also support major infrastructure projects operationally by taking over project management and project control. At the same time, the cooperation with a large network of experts and academic institutions such as the Institutes for Business Administration (IfB) and Marketing and Trade (IMH) of the University of St. Gallen allows us to cover special topics and include the latest state of science.
This background of experience enables us to provide differentiated consulting services that take into account the specific framework conditions and needs – especially in the area of infrastructure-driven companies.
Our areas of expertise. An overview.
We support our customers from strategy development to the transformation of their organization. The two main focuses, asset management and digitalization, run through all areas of expertise.

Strategy and Concept Development
The goal of strategy development is to create sustainable competitive advantages for our customers. The focus of a strategy is on a targeted situation analysis, a clear strategic idea and a realizable implementation.
With our expertise and many years of experience in strategy consulting, we bring to the table both the necessary conceptual tools and in-depth knowledge of industries, relevant trends and success factors.

Performance Measurement
Performance Measurement ensures the operationalization and controllability of a strategy. Abstract strategic goals are translated into concrete operational KPIs and metrics. The basis for their definition is a structured driver analysis based on the strategic goals and taking into account the existing framework conditions, pain points, etc. It must be ensured that there is consistency to the level of operational control in order to obtain a consistent, strategy-oriented control system.
Our experience has shown that ensuring a measurable strategy sustainably increases the performance of an organization. That is why we specifically support our customers in the analysis, development and implementation of structured control systems and performance cockpits, both at a strategic and operational level.

Processes / Structures
Adjustments to processes and structures are usually the last step for us. Triggers can be, for example, strategy projects, optimizations of inefficiencies or adapted business models, which each lead to a corresponding need for adjustment.
With our experience, we support on the one hand end-to-end projects from strategy definition to the transformation of the organization with the corresponding effects on the structure.
On the other hand, we provide extensive experience in the establishment of a structured and integrated process and quality management, as a basis for the further development and professionalization of the operational level.

Asset Management
The traditional, rather short-term maintenance is increasingly becoming a forward-looking asset management. Both the scope and the requirements for the plant infrastructure are increasing. The consequences of this increasing complexity of the plant infrastructures must be mastered on the basis of plant strategies and the precise planning and control of the life cycles.
Against this background, asset management for us includes the optimized management of assets (costs, performance) over the entire life cycle of an asset at a strategic, technological and operational level. Based on the established standards (ISO, PAS etc.), we have developed methods and procedures to jointly develop and establish tailor-made asset management systems with our customers.

Digitalization
Digitalization is a broad field of activity for companies. It offers opportunities ranging from the fundamental innovation of one's own business model to the optimization of operational and administrative processes. In addition to the opportunities, the challenges for data management and the security of IT systems are increasing at the same time.
Our experience has shown that the possibilities of digitalization cannot be fully exploited on the IT level alone. We support companies in the holistic transformation at the levels of processes, data and skills management as well as in the establishment of a stringent security system. For this, we draw on our many years of experience in process management and digitalization projects.

Major Project Management
As part of major project management, we take over the organization and coordination of infrastructure projects. This includes both the conception and initiation of a PMO and the long-term assumption of operational project management tasks. Our focus is in the area of major project management of infrastructure projects in the energy and transport sector.

Fontin & Company. Successfully on the market for over 25 years.
For over 25 years, we have worked closely with both large multinational corporations and medium-sized and municipal companies. A look into the past shows that a lot has changed from the founding 25 years ago to today. At that time, digitalization was still in its infancy: Microsoft was just putting its first homepage on the Internet. The topic of mobility was still far from today’s dynamics and the energy transition was not yet being considered. Since then, the industries and topics have continued to develop. We were able to accompany this development and establish ourselves as a competent partner. From day one, the customer and their challenges in terms of strategies, business models, management processes and plant types have been our top priority. Over the years, the experience from the projects has formed into a pool of valuable ideas and tried-and-tested solutions that we can actively contribute to our consulting work.
We thank you for that.
Thank you to our customers who have trusted us for years and rely on our consulting services. We look forward to challenging projects and a cooperative partnership in the future.
Thanks also to our excellent employees, without whose commitment, creative problem-solving approaches and strong cohesion the journey for Fontin & Company would not have been possible.
